Did you say 120 billion units of makeup waste are produced every year?!

YES! Every year, the cosmetics industry produces more than 120 billion units of packaging. It's a huge amount of waste, and it’s only expected to increase as supply and demand for more and more makeup products continues to rise.

It’s estimated that 13 billion pounds of makeup every year are produced around the world. While not all of it goes in the trash, a huge portion of that amount ends up in landfills and our oceans, and it’s even estimated that 20% of all microplastics found in our oceans are from makeup waste.

With those numbers, it’s hard to ignore the impact makeup waste has on our environment. And let's not forget to factor in chemicals used in makeup products that can also be harmful to wildlife when it ends up in landfills and oceans.

What can we do about it?

I know realistically that having every single product be sustainable is nearly impossible. BUT if everyone just switched out one thing, made one small change for the planet, we could see a decrease in makeup waste.

So join me in swapping out your plastic lip balm for zero waste and help end makeup waste.
