I think a lot of people worry that lip balm in a paper tube has drawbacks.
Will it push up okay? Hold the product? Melt on a hot day? Fall apart in your bag?
And honestly… I get it. Asking people to switch from the same plastic twist up tubes they’ve used their whole lives feels a little strange at first.
But hear me out.
Lip color has been around for thousands of years. Ancient civilizations used crushed stones, berries, oils and pigments to decorate their lips long before modern makeup packaging ever existed. The little plastic tube we all know today is actually a pretty recent invention. Convenient? Sure. But also disposable.
And that’s the part that started bothering me.
Millions of plastic lip balm tubes are made every single year. Tiny little pieces of plastic that are used for a few weeks, tossed away and then sit in landfills for decades. Most aren’t recyclable because they’re too small for sorting machines.
So when I started creating Hello Wink, I knew I wanted something different.
Not perfect. Not giant-corporation polished. Just… better.
My paperboard tubes are sturdy, functional and designed to hold up to everyday use while cutting down on unnecessary plastic waste. They push up from the bottom, hold the balm securely and are surprisingly durable. I spent a long time testing formulas and packaging together because I wanted the experience to still feel fun, easy and magical to use.
And honestly? After a few swipes, most people realize the “weird paper tube” thing disappears pretty quickly. It just becomes part of your routine.
A tiny shift repeated by enough people can make a real difference.
That’s really what Hello Wink is about. Little colorful products that feel good to wear and happen to leave behind a little less trash too.
